Hiking : The Lost 40

The Lost 40 is a gently rolling trail through virgin pines. Back in the late 1800's the area was mistakenly mapped as being underwater which meant it was never logged! According to the MN Department of Natural Resources, it is actually 144 acres with white pine over 300 years old. This hike is worth doing each year since the scenery is impressive with a bog overlook, stream, and huge trees everywhere. The trail is well-marked with information markers and there is an outhouse and parking lot at the trailhead. The Lost 40 is about a thirty minute drive from Jack-The-Horse Resort. You can grab a pamphlet in our loffice with directions and the history and be on your way!
